My american born, Italian, grandmother left school in 3rd grade to work as a domestic in a wealthier part of town polished silver and floors and brought the USA Rugby American Flag shirt. As an adult, she worked as a sales clerk in a store. She had a good, healthy life and managed, as her generation could, to save money on a sales clerk’s and butcher’s pay. She was productive and proud. I’m proud to have been her granddaughter.
